Orphanage and Schools in New York City

In 1822 the Sisters of Charity opened St. Patrick's School on Mulberry Street. It later moved to the corner of Mott and Prince Streets where it exists to this day. St. Patrick's was but the first of the many Sisters of Charity schools in New York.

Sister Elizabeth Boyle, close friend of Mother Seton, came to New York in 1822. She worked in the orphanage on Prince Street established by the sisters in 1817. In 1847 Elizabeth Boyle became the first Mother of the New York Community.
